Gibbs High School Class Of 1963, Inc. Awards Scholarship

ST. PETERSBURG -Roman Mathis, a 2010 graduate of Gibbs Senior High school, and son of Sharcione and Craig Rawls, is the recipient of the first annual monetary scholarship award given by GHS Class of 1963, Inc. Raised and influenced by his grandparents, Lorenzo and Mary Carswell, Roman Mathis submitted his application and was chosen on the basis of his academic goals, financial need and desire to continue his education. Mathis has enrolled at Florida A and M University, and will attend orientation in Tallahassee on July 21. In an effort to help finance his schooling, Roman is employed as an assistant manager trainee at the Winn Dixie store located at 9th Avenue and 58th Street North, St. Petersburg. Store Director, Shawn Thompson, has high praises for Roman as an employee, and as an individual with integrity. Roman will continue his association with Winn Dixie at a store in Tallahassee, while attending FAMU. The Class of 1963 will continue to serve the St. Petersburg community and the GHS students with scholarships on a yearly basis. Thomas ‘Jet’ Jackson is class of ’63 president and Nettie Hannah Jackson serves as chairman of the scholarship committee. The Class of 1963 is scheduled to meet this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 1301 37th St. S., St. Petersburg, to continue plans for the new year.
